Layer 1 · Practice surface
Smooth & highly porous Polyurethane (PU) top layer
Standard PVC and TPE surfaces are closed-cell. Sweat sits on top and creates a slippery film between your skin and the mat. The PU layer works differently. It is open-cell and micro-porous. The moment moisture leaves your hands or feet, it is drawn instantly into the pores. The contact surface stays clear. Your skin meets the mat directly.
Under the pressure of your body weight, those micro-pores create thousands of small vacuum contact points. A slightly damp PU surface has a higher friction coefficient than a dry one. The opposite of PVC. The more you sweat, the harder it grips.
Layer 2 · Core
Internal Stabilization
The dense ribbed rubber core is the structural backbone. Its vertical channel pattern distributes compression evenly across the mat's width, cushioning pressure points at the knees, wrists, and spine without collapse. It also bonds the PU top to the rubber base into a single unit that will not delaminate with repeated use.

Layer 3 · Floor lock
Structured bottom base · Natural Rubber
The herringbone-channel base is moulded directly into the natural rubber. Not printed on. Not coated on. Each chevron creates a suction contact point with the floor the moment the mat is placed down, regardless of surface type: hardwood, tile, stone, or carpet.
The structured geometry prevents lateral slide during dynamic movement and stops corner lift on any surface. No bunching. No creeping.
Why sweat makes it grip harder
The problem with standard mats
PVC and TPE surfaces are closed-cell. When you sweat, moisture has nowhere to go. It sits on the surface, forming a film between your skin and the mat. The harder you work, the more it slides.
Mechanism 1 · Micro-porous absorption
The PU layer is open-cell. Sweat is absorbed downward into the pores the instant it forms. The contact surface stays clear. Your skin meets the mat directly. No water layer between you and it.
Mechanism 2 · Vacuum suction effect
Under body-weight pressure, the micro-pores create thousands of tiny vacuum contact points between skin and surface. A slightly damp PU surface has a higher friction coefficient than a dry one. The opposite of PVC. The harder the session, the more grip activates.

Why there is no break-in period
PVC mats need a sea salt scrub or 20 or more sessions before grip activates. Manufacturing oils coat the surface and have to wear away first.
PU on natural rubber has no such coating. The grip is structural, built into the open-cell material itself. Place the mat down on day one. Both mechanisms are already working.
